We’re a passionate group of people who love giving back. It’s our goal to help every child feel the joy and freedom of riding their first bike and in the last 7 years we’ve helped over 14,600 kids in the Detroit area get a bike and a new helmet.
Turn a Dusty Bike Into a Shiny Smile
Free Bikes 4 Kidz is a nonprofit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to those most in need. In 2024 you helped us collect, refurbish and distribute over 2,200 bikes, along with new helmets, to under-resourced kids in our community. Thank you Detroit for helping us change the lives of so many local children!
FB4K Detroit Gets 2,800 More Kids on a Bicycle in 2025!
There’s nothing quite like new-bike day, particularly for a kid who may never have had a set of wheels before. The joy radiated from the faces of hundreds of local children on December 13 and 14 as over 250 kids came to the Piston Group warehouse in Corktown to pick out a bike and get fitted for a new helmet from Free Bikes 4 Kidz. Then, after some impromptu (but enthusiastic) test-riding in our building, they took their precious cargo home to ride in their own neighborhoods – never mind that it’s winter, when you’ve got a new bike you want to ride! About 2,600 more bicycles were sent out in bulk (with a helmet for each bike) to organizations that pre-registered with us and will have a give away event at their locations in time for the holidays.
This is the eighth time FB4K has distributed bikes to kids in the Detroit community bringing the total number of smiles and lives changed with a bicycle over 17,000 since 2018 thanks to our incredibly dedicated volunteers and generous sponsors. Thank you Detroit!
